In February 2018, TNI initiated a five year mentorship programme to identify, train and promote a group of 25 young photographers in Nigeria. The programme focuses on the reflective aspect of photography through consistent engagement with the participants in a series of activities that emphasize on critical thinking, research & critical writing, visual storytelling, development of photography projects, exchange programs, seminar projects and portfolio reviews. The mentoring class uses informal workshop sessions, exhibitions and a publication and collaborations within Nigeria and across Africa in order to provide visibility for all the participants.
In continuation of the mentoring classes, the Nlele Institute in held a two day photography training session on the 20th and 21st of May, 2019 with the title “Where My strength Lies And How To Potentiate It”. The session had in attendance the French-Cameroonian curator Yves Chatap and Nduwhite Ndubuisi Ahanonu, the curator and founder of IICD center Abuja Nigeria. The session was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Lagos.
